Enjoy Scuttlebutt Brewing Co.'s new project, a speakeasy-style taproom with a constantly rotating beer list. In 2011, with the help of our many loyal customers, we should reach nearly 6000 barrels sold. Super popular microbrewery with family-friendly restaurant located on the waterfront. Our brewery went from 2500 square feet to 8100 square feet in a facility which will support many years of growth. With construction complete in the winter of '07 we moved the brew house and commenced brewing on April 1, 2007. In the summer of '06 we found a new building and began the necessary work to turn a warehouse into a production brewery. Brewed with pomegranate and hibiscus this beer boasts a refreshing fruity flavor with a citrus undertone for a lingering finish. In 2006 it became clear that our original location at the waterfront would no longer support the kind of growth we were experiencing. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales. We brewed three styles of beer and finished out that first year with 170 barrels sold. We brewed our first beer on Jwith a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. A business plan was established in 1995 and we grew our operation from 5 gallon buckets to a 20 barrel system. To maintain our marital bliss we decided to move out of the kitchen and into a larger operation. As thoughtful as the gift was, it was also a source of strife - she wanted to use the kitchen for preparing meals for the family while I was crowding her out in favor of homemade beer. Not bad in the end.My wife, knowing that I never wanted to run out of beer, gave me a homebrewing kit for Father's Day 1990. It lacks hops in both the flavor and the aroma (more the aroma), but it could probably pass as an English-style IPA. So what are my final thoughts on this beer? It's a bit sweet for an IPA, but it does finish dry, there is some bitterness there, and it lingers. In the mouth it's medium bodied with a very fine-bubbled, gently crisp and then smooth carbonation - I have to give them props for that. It's better than I thought it would be based on the appearance and aroma, and I should also point out that the head retention and lacing are both great, so there's that. For over 20 years Scuttlebutt beers have been brewed in Everett with the Northwest’s finest ingredients barley from Vancouver, Washington, hops from the Yakima Valley, a proprietary yeast from Odell, Oregon and some of the nation’s finest drinking water from the Spada Reservoir in the Cascade Mountains. I am finding some hops though, although they're really not that clear: citrusy, piney, and a bit earthy and spicy. In fact, everything I wrote about the aroma I'd just repeat here. I get sweetish caramel malt, some fruitiness, and just a hint of yeast. It doesn't have a very strong aroma, and certainly not one that's hoppy. It's a murky amber-orange with golden highlights towards the bottom of the glass, topped by a yellowed off-white cap that looks like meringue or fresh dog crap, you take your pick. (Right) The labelfor Diamond Knot's Brown Ale depicts the brewery's namesake. OK, I got it all in after about 7 minutes. I'm just waiting now for the head to die down. There's a lot of yeast in there - it's not just cloudy, it's murky. 111 Watering holes, Bars And Pubs By Michael R. Notes via stream of consciousness: While I have no idea how old this beer is (thank you Scuttlebutt for not dating your product) I'm guessing it's old because of the massive head and thousands of tiny upward streaming bubbles.
